WHAT IS POSTNATAL MASSAGE?
Postnatal massage is a gentle treatment designed to support your recovery after childbirth. In those early weeks and months of motherhood, when much of your energy is focused on caring for your baby, massage can offer a much-needed chance to rest, relax and reconnect with your own body. It helps relieve muscle tension, soothe aches and takes care of you as you settle into life with your new baby.
Every postnatal massage is tailored to suit how your body is feeling. Postnatal massage is particularly beneficial for easing the neck, shoulders and upper back, where tension commonly builds from feeding, carrying and holding your baby.
Many new mums find side-lying massage particularly comfortable, especially if they are breastfeeding or are not yet comfortable lying on their front. If you can't get onto the couch easily or your upper back is most affected, a seated massage position can also work well. Together, we'll find the most comfortable position for you.
When can I have a postnatal massage?
It's best to wait until you have been signed off by your midwife before booking a postnatal massage. This is typically around six weeks after birth, although it may be longer following a caesarean section or if there have been any complications during your recovery.
Once you have been given the all-clear, postnatal massage can be a wonderful way to support healing, ease tension and take a little time just for you.
